Ning-chih Hsu/Violin

Ms. Hsu received her master’s degree in violin performance from The Juilliard School and bachelor’s degree with Performer’s Certificate from Eastman School of Music.  She studied violin with Teddy Su, Oleh Krysa, Zvi Zeitlin, and Dorothy DeLay. She was twice the recipient of the Starling Violin Award.  Ms. Hsu performed numerous concerts in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Houston, Galveston, Taipei, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Milan, Rome...from major concert halls to churches and public schools. After winning the concerto competitions at Eastman School and at Brevard Music Festival in 1998, Ms.Hsu performed the Sibelius violin concerto with the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra and Saint-saens Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso with the Brevard Festival Orchestra.  

Ms. Hsu played for Itzhak Perlman in masterclasses and studied with members of the Cleveland, Fine Art, and Juilliard quartet. The festivals she participated include: Sarasota Music Festival, Brevard Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, New York String Orchestra, and Asian Youth Orchestra.  In 2001, She became a member of the Jupiter Symphony Orchestra in New York and also studied conducting with its founder, Jens Nygaard. Later that year, Ms. Hsu was featured at the "Young Artist Solo Recital" in National Concert Hall (Taipei) and soon joined the musical scenes in Taiwan. She taught violin and orchestra at the Taipei American School and was a founding member of the Taipei Melange Trio. In 2010, She was invited by Chi-Mei Foundation in Taiwan to record music on the rare violins.

Ms. Hsu enjoys collaborating with local musicians, dancers, and coaching young students. Ms. Hsu teaches violin at the University of St. Thomas (Houston) and its Music Preparatory School since 2011. She also coached viola and chamber music at the Houston Youth Symphony. Ms. Hsu is a member of the Houston Latin Philharmonic Orchestra and serves as a pianist at the Houston Ballet Academy since 2013.  In the past years, Ms. Hsu performed outreach concerts with the Quartus Chamber Players and Trio Oriens at public schools and local hospitals.
